"Really positive first day, it felt like blowing the cobwebs off" – Sam Lowes on his opening day at the Aragon test event
The English #14 looks to shake the rust off and get back to work after the summer break at the two-day Aragon test event.
Currently sat in sixth place in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Riders’ Championship standings, Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) was pleased to get back to work at the pair of test days hosted at Spain’s Motorland Aragon. Lowes rode well in his return to the track on Monday’s Day 1. The Ducati Independent rider logged a total of 58 Laps and finished the day third quickest, his time of 1:49.517 clocking in 0.143s behind Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in P1 and Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in P2.
After the test of an all-new circuit at the Hungarian Round at the end of July, the teams enjoyed a break of about a month over August. Now, however, riders like Lowes are locking back in and looking to fight for each point left in the four remaining rounds this season. The circuit hosting the test, Motorland Aragon, will host the next round after the French Round at the beloved Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, coming up soon, with track action kicking off on September 5th.
On his return to his Ducati Panigale V4 R at Day 1 of Aragon’s test, Sam Lowes said: “It was nice to be back on the bike, it was quite a long time without riding, so it was nice to get that going. It was a little bit funny with the weather this morning; I didn’t end up riding until after dinner, but I still managed to get 50 laps in, and I really enjoy this track. It was nice to be back here riding. It was a really positive first day; it felt like blowing the cobwebs off. We didn’t try much, just getting back into the rhythm. We did a couple of little things, but we have good things to work through tomorrow. I feel like we needed today just to get me back going, and then tomorrow we can work on some stuff.”
